1967 - Art Engoron - Interviewee

L-R - Art Engoron (1967) and Sara Pearl Kenigsberg, the latter of whom interviewed Art about his limited knowledge but many strong views of New York State’s Mental Hygiene Law, which “governs how New York provides care, treatment, and protections for people with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders and sets rules for patients’ rights, hospitalization (including involuntary commitment), and the operation of mental health facilities.” Sara is making a documentary about theory and practice under the law.

1969 - Craig Artim - My baby sister, Melanie Artim (1974) mentioned that I scored 3 touchdowns in a game. What she didn’t mention is that I was the punter who kicked the ball behind me into the end zone, defying the law of physics, but aided by a gale force wind and pressured by three huge linemen rushing towards me. I must have punted that ball shoulder high to avoid it being blocked. I then raced back to get the ball and run it out of end zone, getting tackled on the 3 yard line. The opposing team scored 2 plays later. I should have downed the ball and give up the two-point safety. An experience of which my dear brother, Bruce Artim (1971), reminds me constantly. Happy New Year, y’all! And don’t forget: Put Your Pinnies IN the Bin!!!! Ciao”

1970 - Mary Zeravica - Deceased (in 2024)

1974 - Carol Leifer

Isaac Price (1984) Writes - “Carol (1974) is a renowned comedian and writer known for her work on Seinfeld and other accomplishments. Recently, she was a guest on The Bob Lefsetz Podcast. The linked episode explores her career highlights in comedy and television writing.”

Henry is John Sullivan’s (1964) spoiled, 12-pound Maltipoo. “Previously, I always had Goldens. This is my first little dog. He is a major part of our lives……an awesome little guy.”

Roxie is Rebecca Consolo Freedman’s nine-year-old part terrier, part dachshund. “I have loved dogs all my life. There are so many rescues that need homes that I go shopping at local rescues to see what I can find.

My dogs have been Thumbellina, whom I adopted while in college; Clueless (who really was), a cocker spaniel that I rescued in Vermont; and Miles Davis, who was discovered in the Myles State Park in Plymouth, MA, a sweetheart of a dog with long shaggy hair that covered his eyes. Miles tried running away many times. He was an escape artist to the point that my neighbors would often see me calling him with a leash in one hand and dog bones in the other.

Last but not least is Roxie. She was brought to MA from West Virginia. She is the first dog that is a real barker. I adopted her when she was four-months-old; she is terrified of traffic and fireworks.”

1973/72 - Bonnie Greenberg - Found on Facebook

The Usual Words of Wisdom

Thanks to our fabulous Webmaster, Keith Aufhauser (Class of 1963), you can regale yourself with the first 248 Wheatley School Alumni Association Newsletters (and much other Wheatley data and arcana) at our website:

The Wheatley School Alumni Association Website

Also thanks to Keith is our search engine, prominently displayed on our home page: type in a word or phrase and, wow!, you’ll find every place it exists in all previous Newsletters and other on-site material.

I edit all submissions, even material in quotes, for clarity and concision, without any indication thereof. I cannot and do not vouch for the accuracy of what people tell me, as TWSAA does not have a New Yorker style fact-checking department.

We welcome any and all text and photos relevant to The Wheatley School, 11 Bacon Road, Old Westbury, NY 11568, and the people who administered, taught, worked, performed, and/or studied there. Art Engoron, Class of 1967

Closing

That’s it for The Wheatley School Alumni Association Newsletter # 250. Please send me your autobiography before someone else sends me your obituary.
