Welcome to The Wheatley School Alumni Association Newsletter # 234,

Donna Margiotta Image 118280278

1967 - Tim Boland - “So sorry to see that Donna Margiotta (’67) has passed. She had such a sunshine about her. Condolences to her loved ones. Her yearbook photo says it all! Sweetness personified. ❤️

1967 - Jill Simon Forte - “I feel the loss of a good, sweet friend from my high school years: Donna Margiotta. We both married and had children, and we rented a two-story house. My son Matthew and her daughter Erin were babies and happily played together in the house and in the snow. Donna was such a caring, loving girl that I told my husband (Bob Forte, 1965) and Donna that if anything happened to me, I would want Donna to help raise my son along with Bob. Donna went through many hardships in her life, but throughout, she always had a smile . Whoever remembers her will understand what a kind girl she was.”

L-R - Jill Simon Forte (1967), Jill Simon’s son Matthew, and Donna Margiotta’s daughter Erin.

L-R - Donna Margiotta’s husband, Donna, Jill, Jill’s husband Bob Forte (1965), at the Wheatley 1967 Senior Prom.

1967 - Scott Frishman Writes - “Art, I would like to add to the remarks about you by Larry Rosenthal (1965) (BTW, another Pebble Laner)

Without you and Keith, we would have no Wheatley Newsletter and no Wheatley news. Most importantly, we would have no Wheatley camaraderie.

Without you, we would have no idea what has happened to, or goes on with the lives of, Wheatleyites (other than our long and close friend)s.”

Huddle the Heron

Rebecca Consolo Freer Freedman (1968) Writes - “I enjoyed reading about Huddle the Green Heron’s rehabilitation. It’s so rewarding to help our injured animals. Thank you for sharing.”

Jo Ann Bregman Miles - Adam Goldstein (1980) Writes - “Yea to Jo Ann Bregman Miles (’72) and Huddle! Your kind efforts were rewarded, and you were made richer by your giving. Thanks for a great story. Adam G (’80)”

Gerry, Billy, and Charlie

1969 - Gerry Gersh - “Hi Art. Fascinating story about Billy Joel. Who knew? And Hicksville High School, no less. My best friend went there and introduced me to an acquaintance of his, ‘Charlie,’ who was an ‘All County Lacrosse goalie,’ and whom I watched win the state championship game. Charlie could have gone to any Ivy League school he wanted, but he chose Friends World College instead. From there, we teamed up and went to East Africa. After touring together, Charlie went to live in an Ujama village, the closest thing to an Israeli kibbutz, while I went to the island of Lamu, Kenya, to study and learn the purest form of Swahili. ‘Mimi nuweza Kiswahili bwana.’ Hope you’re well.”

And a special thank you for devoting an entire Newsletter to this event.

I was honored to be a part of pulling this whole thing off, and I’ve had a lot of requests about doing it again!!”

The Usual Words of Wisdom

Thanks to our fabulous Webmaster, Keith Aufhauser (Class of 1963), you can regale yourself with the first 231 or so Wheatley School Alumni Association Newsletters (and much other Wheatley data and arcana) at

The Wheatley School Alumni Association Website

Also thanks to Keith is our search engine, prominently displayed on our home page: type in a word or phrase and, wow!, you’ll find every place it exists in all previous Newsletters and other on-site material.

I edit all submissions, even material in quotes, for clarity and concision, without any indication thereof. I cannot and do not vouch for the accuracy of what people tell me, as TWSAA does not have a New Yorker type fact-checking department.

We welcome any and all text and photos relevant to The Wheatley School, 11 Bacon Road, Old Westbury, NY 11568, and the people who administered, taught, worked, and/or studied there. Art Engoron, Class of 1967
