THAT NIGHT, AFTER HEADING BACK EAST, WE PLAN TO DINE SOMEWHERE IN THE QUAINT VILLAGE OF PORT JEFFERSON. SUNDAY MORNING WILL BE BREAKFAST AND FAREWELLS.
IF INTERESTED, EMAIL KEN MARTIN AT KEN@LODGINGKIT.COM. VQ”
The reunion will be held the weekend of October 4/5th, 2025 at the Wyndham Viana Hotel & Spa in Westbury, New York (Link). We’re planning a full day of activities on Saturday, Wheatley’s Homecoming, beginning with a catered lunch at Wheatley, catching up with old friends, a tour of the school, and culminating with a buffet dinner with open seating at the Viana. There will be a cash bar at the Viana. We’re looking at $30 per person for the lunch and $100 per person for the buffet. Hotel expenses are going to be $345 per night per room, all in (including hotel taxes and fees), provided you make reservations by September 9th. Thereafter, the hotel’s standard rates will apply. Breakfasts at the Viana will be free. You’ll need to make you own transportation arrangements. If you wish, you may stay at a nearby hotel without affecting the charge for dinner at the Viana. Lunch and the buffet are prepaid. You may prepay using Zelle to againatexan@yahoo.com, or pay by check to Malcolm McNeill at 6505 Minola Street, Unit A, Houston, TX 77007. Currently, about 40 classmates have signed up. For now, please let us know if you are coming and the number of people in your party, by emailing us at:
Richard “Rich” Weissman (1972) Writes - A few years ago, I invited The Wheatley School Class of 1972, along with those from other classes, to come to Palm Springs, California, for a weekend party at my home there, hosted by my husband, J.D. Horn, and me. Planning was complete, and many people were going to attend ... but, Covid got in the way. Let’s try it again.
This is not an official reunion; rather, it is a gathering for Wheatley graduates. It's our treat, and everyone attending is our guest, including spouses/partners/companions. Of course, everyone needs to provide their own air travel and accommodations. There’s a Hilton minutes from the house (Hilton Vacation Club Palm Canyon, Palm Springs), and many other accommodations at various price points in the city. Getting around Palm Springs with Lyft/Uber is easy. It’s a small city, and the airport is literally downtown (and our house is only eight minutes from downtown).
We’re in the Andreas Hills neighborhood (south of downtown). Our house was designed for large entertaining and can handle sizable events both indoors as well as outdoors by the pool. We often host functions ranging from 50 to 300+ people (400 was the largest we ever had). We have a caterer we use (with chef/staff/bartending), and musicians/entertainers who often work our events. My husband and I would pay for all event costs (there would be no cost for those attending).
The idea is to start at 5:00 pm on Saturday evening with a buffet dinner with champagne and wine, live music and entertainment. On Sunday at 11:00 am, we would have a poolside party with a buffet lunch going through the late afternoon. Attire would be casual for both days. We're thinking early March, 2026, (a good time of year for people to visit Palm Springs). If 20 people come, that's great, if 200 people come, that's even greater. People from other classes are encouraged to join us. Feel free to spread the word to other Wildcats. If it’s a go, I’ll send out an e-invitation with an RSVP link.
Please let me know your thoughts by emailing rweissman@hotmail.com so that I can get a feel if there is sufficient interest and if there’s anything specific people want.
With love,
Rich Weissman
