Wheatley Class of 1975 Reunion Weekend - October 10-12, 2025
Wildcats
Reunion Band. The band consists of Mark Lubin
on guitar, Susan Rotholz on flute and vocals, Michael Sadowsky on drums and
vocals, Toni (Buckner) LaPietra on keyboard and vocals, and Joe Spallina on
bass guitar and vocals. If Joe doesn't sound familiar, that's
because, sadly, he did not attend Wheatley, but he is graciously volunteering
his talents.
Wheatley-aoke! No, no, not karaoke per se, but where any of you can join us 'on stage' with songs of your choice, on instruments of your choice. This means, we need you! If you play an instrument and/or sing, tell us your favorite song, and we will be ready for you to join us. If you wail on harmonica, or play a mean sax, we want you! We only ask that you send us your requests by August 15, so that we have time to back you up in style.
Wheatley-aoke/Wildcats Reunion Band performance is open to all Wheatley Class of 1975 members, alumni and friends. You don't have to have signed up for the Sunday dinner to attend, but we really hope to see you there, too!
Oceans of
Music, we leave the rivers behind and head into deeper waters.
This August 23 concert plunges into the drama and mystery of the sea,
beginning with sweeping selections from Richard Rodgers’ Victory at
Sea and Eric Whitacre’s atmospheric Water Night,
conducted by assistant conductor Christopher Cavaretta.
Four Sea Interludes from Peter
Grimes, led by guest conductor Conrad Chu, brings the waves and
wind of the English coast to vivid life. The evening also features A Light in
the Ocean by Chris Pilsner, a contemporary meditation on the
sea’s mysteries, before culminating in the crown jewel of the season: Claude
Debussy’s La Mer. Let your imagination drift and dive—this concert
is an oceanic odyssey.”
File Cabinet, ca. 1965-67.
Six Black Cans, 1963.
The Wheatley School, a small public high school in Old Westbury, Long Island, and Debby maintained a psychology practice, while raising two sons in Queens. With Aaron’s art production, it was a busy life that left little time for making the scene. “He was concerned with trying to sell his artwork,” Debby said, “but also he did not a lot of the posing and the phoniness of the art world.”
Wheatley as a “school within a school,” Debby said, that opened students’ eyes to the art around them. “They called it the Cave of Meditation,” she said, and it had a lasting impact. “These were lost kids, from well-off families, you know, but lost, and he helped them find a vision of the world.”
