Welcome to the Wheatley School Alumni Association Newsletter # 185,
Louise Kampa Triano (1965) Writes - “BTW, anyone in the greater NY area (or anywhere, for that matter) who might like to comment on, or be involved in, our 60th-Year Reunion next year can contact me, Louise Kampa Triano, living on the North Shore of Long Island. You can text me at 917-561-7631.”
ALBANY TAKEOVER OF LONG ISLAND SCHOOLS???
Malcolm “Rusty” McNeill (1965) Writes - “I think it's time, in fact it's beyond time, to initiate a recall referendum on Gov. Hochul for her blatant takeover of Long Island's schools. Or, consider instituting impeachment proceedings. She has no right to do what she is doing for the reasons she has given.”
Steven Amerikaner 1965) Writes - “Hi Art: I'm finishing up a personal history photo book, and I am hoping that someone in Wheatley-land has a picture of the Big D discount store that used to be on Hillside Avenue in Williston Park. I worked there during the summer of 1965 and have fond and not-so-fond memories of Morris Shapiro, the owner. If you have a photo, please send it to my email: samerikaner@gmail.com. Many thanks. Steve Amerikaner

John Haas (1960) Writes - “My class was the first that went through four years at Wheatley. It was a great school then and only got better!”
Susan Vogt (1967) Writes - “I am glad to see Wheatley get recognized for the quality education we knew we were getting.”
Jack Wolf (1967) Writes - “I'll take humility over pride - being the top dog means somebody is the bottom dog. We are wealthy, we were always very segregated, don't know about today, but the Class of 1967 had no black or Puerto Ricans. Lots of Jews, the achievers of the time, now likely Asians. Yes, we were the elite. Dream hoarders. I would prefer if the school district had affordable housing.”
Malcom “Rusty” McNeill (1965) Writes - Jack Wolf’s essay in Newsletters ## 182 and 183,
is right on. Very Wheatley!”
Madlyn “Maddy” Nathanson (1969) Writes - “I appreciate Jack Wolf’s insights re Wheatley.”
Susan Obrant (1964) Writes - “Dr. Peter Witt and Dr. Edward Ouchi! They are clear in my thought to this day. I appreciate their keen support and kindness in helping us to interpret the books we read and their choice to come to a public school and grace us with their brilliance. I thank their contribution.”

1967 - Linda Caterino - “Arthur, I’m so proud of my daughter Nicole’s new book. It’s called “Co-parenting by Design,” by Annette Kaye and Nicole Siqueiros Stoutner. Nicole has been a family law attorney for about 20 years and writes eloquently of her experiences and the issues she observed while representing her clients. She was also a Maricopa County, Arizona, Commissioner, but she has now returned to her private practice in Scottsdale. All this while being a wife and mother of a budding actress, Alessandra M K Caterino, whose first film, “The Weight of Darkness,” should be out soon. A pretty interesting family! The book is available on Amazon.com.

1968 - Louise Kurshan - “My sister, Nancy Kurshan 1961), babysat Geri Parisi Kaplan (19694). Geri babysat me, and I played with Geri's little brother, Teddy (1975). The Parisis’ mother, Lucy Parisi, made ravioli from scratch, and she'd call my mom and tell her to send me over. Good times on Bengeyfield Drive.”
1970 - Nina Galerstein - “Hi Art, On Sunday, December 8, 2024, I met James Seaton (1967) for the first time. It was so much fun! We met to talk about T-Groups because they were a unique and amazing experience at Wheatley. I learned so much from James about how it all started....but now it's time to hunker down and really find out more info and write about it. This needs to be part of Wheatley's rich history. So....I am asking people who have clear memories of T-Groups to contact me so that I can set up some interviews. Please email me at ninagalerstein1@gmail.com. I'm excited about this project! Nina
