“Hi Art! For any Wheatleyites living or passing through Los Angeles, I want to share a tasty address. My son, Daniel Matho (b. 1990, the youngest of my three children) owns a fabulous French café and restaurant called Maison Matho: Having grown up in the Grenoble area of southern France, he trained as a chef in the classic French technique. After a few years working in France, he decided to seek new adventures in Los Angeles. Only two months before COVID erupted, he began prospecting for a place of his own. As luck would have it, he found a tiny little storefront on Melrose Ave, out of which he could sell creative pastries and lunch sandwiches that transport you back to France with every bite. Take-out was de rigueur in early 2021. Shortly thereafter, he fell in love and his life was sealed in LA. He’s been thriving there ever since, with a growing reputation and clientele. In true LA fashion, he outfitted the side patio to accommodate outdoor tables, which has become a prime spot for foodies. He was just filmed by the local TV station KTLA (Sept. 3, 2024) with two other chefs announcing the upcoming Los Angeles Food Bowl Festival that will take place Sept. 20 – 22 Los Angeles Food Bowl Festival Here is the recording: https://ktla.com/video/celebrate-the-8th-annual-l-a-times-food-bowl/10008446/ Here’s a link to his LA Times write-up last fall: https://www.latimes.com/food/story/2023-11-10/maison-matho-french-pastries-sandwiches-hollywood Feel free to practice your high school French by reading an article in the French expat news feed “French Morning” where Daniel was written up (https://frenchmorning.com/maison-matho-resto/ And if you say you are a Wheatley alumnus, you will receive a 10% discount! The End
